Bird is the Word

Projection Mapped SculptureBARI Festival2016Teneriffe, Brisbane

Bird is the Word was a site-specific projection-mapped sculpture installation created for Yonder Festival, a collaborative multi-arts warehouse event curated by three Brisbane-based arts organizations. The work centered around a striking bird-like wall sculpture.

Built within Resolume, the projection layers animated light patterns over the sculpture's surface, transforming it into a dynamic, living entity that oscillates between presence and disappearance. As sound frequencies modulate the shifting patterns of the projection, the installation meditates on the liminality of perception—how sight, sound, and time interlace to form fleeting moments of coherence before dissolving back into entropy.

Rooted in Sloe Motion's ongoing exploration of light and computational abstraction, Bird is the Word embodies the artist's fascination with impermanence and emergent systems. In the chaos of the warehouse festival atmosphere, the piece served as both an anchor and an anomaly—an entity in constant flux, mirroring the ephemeral energy of the night.
